Build a quiz with separate scores

Track different skills or categories with separate numeric variables instead of combining everything into one total.

Steps

  1. List your categories and the questions that contribute to each one. Give each category a distinct variable name.
  2. Create a Number variable starting at 0 for each category in Logic → Customize using data → Variables; save the dialog.
A Number variable stores a starting value. Saved calculation rules determine how answers change it.
  3. In Branching & Calculations, attach each answer rule to its relevant question and update only the intended category variable.
Check both the target variable and operand. This control example was canceled and is not a verified points rule.
  4. Save logic and test a respondent who scores in only one category, then a respondent who scores in several.
  5. Check how you will present the totals and handle ties before sharing the quiz.

Check before you rely on it

For a two-category example, a science answer must not increase the arts total. Verify both totals independently.

If you need help

Do not assume a dedicated quiz wizard or automatic tie-breaker is available. Define and test the rules you actually use.

Contact support with the relevant screen, time, and a redacted description. Keep credentials and private respondent information out of screenshots.
