Add and change variables
Create a separate variable for each total or label you need, then use a rule to update it.
Select a screenshot to enlarge it.
Steps
- In Design, open Logic → Customize using data → Variables.
- Under Custom variables, select + Add new variable. Enter a unique name, choose Number or Text, and set its initial value. Use the visible default score and price fields only for their intended totals.
A Number variable stores a starting value. Saved calculation rules determine how answers change it. - Select Save. Reopen Variables to confirm the names, types, and starting values persisted.
- Open Branching & Calculations and add a rule to the question that should change the value. Complete the condition and calculation or text action, then select Save logic.
Check both the target variable and operand. This control example was canceled and is not a verified points rule. - Preview a matching answer and a nonmatching answer. Start a fresh test when checking the initial value.
Check before you rely on it
For a points example, start a Number variable at 0 and add 1 only for the intended answer. Confirm an unrelated answer leaves it at 0.
If you need help
Use unique names without spaces or punctuation. If a rule does not save, complete every condition and action before trying again.
